June 28th & July 2nd
We hosted a cracker compie at Dassen Island with a good turnout. Spirits were high after getting a much needed break from the stormy winter weather. Conditions were really great – warm water, absolutely NO wind, flat seas & good visibility ranging from 6m to over 10m at some spots.
Fish was a bit scarse though after getting numerous reports of full quote yellowtail bagged the days before. Most spearos getting 2 yellowtail maxi weighers, it quickly ended up being a competition of finding hottie weighers which seemed to disappear late morning. Great day’s diving with the mates & good fun! Well done Robert!

The following Wed. night saw a big yellowtail braai bash at the club. We enjoyed great support – thanks to all for helping, supplying & braaing fish! It also was prize giving & we thank Rabitech, who has been supporting BUDC for many years, for sponsoring the prizes once again.

for those lucky enough to get out to the tuna grounds off cape point early december, rewards were great with some big yellowfin landed. the week before xmas the s easter blew and made it unpleasant. the tuna moved around to the west coast side. i unfortunately missed my gap, and my new tommy botha gun will have to be a wall ornament for a bit longer.
the crayfish season was too short to mention. the big bugs bonanza being the only worthwhile crayfish dive i had.
from xmas to about the 4th jan the sea was really good from stillbay all the way to jefferies bay.no wind and perfect weather. the temp being between 20 and 22degc and viz mostly good. however there were few big fish around. not many cracker. after diving sedgefield to cape st francis and then to eersterivier, we eventually got some nice fish. a few 12 kilo yellowtail ,cracker between 8- 10 kilos and some big reefies.
after the 4th the conditions deteriorated rapidly from yzterfontein to still bay. rivers flooding and generally cr@p conditions all round. which suited me fine as i had to get back to work
